Head Start report: enrollment, waitlists and spending within federal limits, district says

A committee update to the Pasco school board detailed Head Start and Early Head Start enrollment, waitlist and budget information.
The report said that in February the programs served families in Head Start and Early Head Start and that waitlists remained; the presenter reported approximately 636 Head Start families served in February and a waitlist of about 220 families of whom 167 were income eligible, and roughly 264 on the Early Head Start waitlist with 243 income eligible. The presenter also said 10 percent of Head Start families and 24 percent of Early Head Start children are diagnosed with a disability.
The presenter reported that more than 33,000 meals were served in February across Head Start and Early Head Start, and that administrative costs were 6.51 percent of the Head Start budget and 4.61 percent of the Early Head Start budget—both below the 15 percent federal limitation for administration.
The board heard that the Head Start grant application for the 2025–26 program year will be submitted May 1 and that the programs continue to operate with waitlists. Committee members also noted training on eligibility verification rules and parent engagement activities scheduled for April.
Board members asked follow-up questions and were told additional program details and documentation would be made available through the Early Childhood office.
