Board advances text amendment to allow adult day care centers in PD overlay

The Board of Aldermen gave first reading Feb. 3 to an ordinance amending section 400.138 of the Brentwood City Code to permit adult day care centers as a conditional use in the Planned Development (PD) overlay district.
City staff said the change would place adult day care centers in the same conditional-use category as private child day care centers. Tamika Ward, representing Care Companions of Clayton, told the board the applicant has submitted for an adult day care at 2570 South Brentwood Boulevard; site-specific review of that location remains pending before Planning and Zoning.
Alderman Sims asked whether the text amendment is a rezoning or procedural change; staff clarified it is a text amendment to allow the use generally within PD districts, and that an individual site plan and conditional-use permit would return to Planning and Zoning and then to the Board for approval if the site is eligible.
Planning and Zoning recommended approval of the text amendment. No final conditional-use decision for the 2570 South Brentwood Boulevard site was made at the Feb. 3 meeting; site specifics will be evaluated at Planning and Zoning before any conditional-use permit is brought to the Board of Aldermen.
