Mister Whiteley, the fire chief, told the Brentwood Board of Aldermen committee the fire department currently has two openings and is moving to speed up hiring.
"We currently have 2 openings in the department. And we are doing a hiring process right now. Testing occurred last week, and then next week, we will do interviews and 1 additional test," Whiteley said, describing an effort to accelerate the process because the applicant market is competitive.
Whiteley said the department is shortening timelines compared with prior years because applicants are being hired quickly by other employers. He noted that in 2024 many applicants received job offers before the department's process concluded.
The chief did not give dollar amounts for recruitment or list specific start dates for new hires in the transcript. He described the department's efforts as ongoing; no motions or votes about hiring were recorded in the meeting transcript.
