Local small business credits EDGE funds for new curbing service, adds two jobs

Drew Smith, owner of 307 Lawn Pros LLC, reported to the council that EDGE (Evolve, Diversify, and Grow our Economy) funds helped his company purchase curbing equipment that enabled a new line of business and local jobs.
Administrative Services Director Miss Harris introduced a short update on EDGE recipients and noted several businesses had supplied written reports for the council packet. Smith said the half-cent tax award purchase paid for curbing equipment and a trailer-mounted mixing/extrusion unit. ‘‘I was recipient of the half cent tax. And I used it to purchase some curbing equipment and expand my lawn care landscape business,’’ Smith said. He told the council the purchase allowed the business to install decorative and functional curbing, stamping, coloring and sealing concrete curbs.
Smith said the equipment purchase supported employment growth. ‘‘I hired 2 additional employees, full time employees,’’ he said, adding he expected to retain at least one of the hires beyond the current season. Smith said to date the company had laid roughly 524 linear feet of curb and had another 400 linear feet already scheduled for the upcoming season.
Council members asked about services and job creation; Smith confirmed the company provides mowing, sprinkler systems, landscape curbing, small flat work and fencing, and that the curbing capability met a local demand with few competitors. Council thanked Smith for the update and encouraged continued reporting to the city as EDGE-funded projects progress.
Staff said other EDGE recipients submitted written updates that are available on request.
