Committee approves pavilion use for middle school and Mount Calvary; beer-garden RFP draws no bids

The Brentwood Public Works Committee on Feb. 13 approved two pavilion uses at Brentwood Park: a repeat of the Brentwood Middle School fun run during Brentwood Days and a one‑time Mount Calvary preschool fundraiser.

Parks and recreation staff presented the middle‑school request and told the committee the event worked well last year and staff recommended allowing the school to use the pavilion and the park route again. Committee members approved the request by voice vote.

Staff also described a separate request from Mount Calvary to rent the pavilion for a preschool fundraiser. Committee members approved allowing Mount Calvary to use the pavilion for this year’s event but indicated any repeat-year requests should be brought back for committee consideration. Parks staff said Mount Calvary would be charged for staff costs for event coverage, the same approach used for school district events.

In the same department report, staff said an RFP for a proposed beer garden drew no responses. Staff said they contacted Rockwell, an early proponent of locating at the site; Rockwell cited staffing concerns and a preference for a year‑round facility and remains interested but could not respond in the current cycle. Parks staff characterized the lack of proposals as disappointing but said the city is not dependent on the beer garden for next year and will consider issuing another RFP in the future.

Why it matters: Pavilion permits and special‑event rentals set expectations for staff coverage, fees and community use of public parks. The committee’s decision also preserves the option to require future repeat events to return for explicit committee approval.
