The Brentwood Board of Aldermen on May 3 voted unanimously to appoint James C. Hetlage of Lash Lambert P.C. as the city attorney and authorized the mayor to execute an agreement for legal services.
The appointment follows the resignation of former city attorney Kevin O’Keefe. Mayor Dimmit said the mayoral office had already appointed Hetlage on an interim basis and recommended confirming him as the permanent city attorney. "I've known Jim for quite some time, and I have nothing but the absolute utmost confidence in his abilities," the mayor said during discussion.
Alderman Plovka disclosed a longtime personal friendship with Hetlage but said he had no financial relationship with the firm and intended to vote in favor. The board moved for a second reading and then approved the ordinance by roll call; the clerk recorded eight yes votes and no opposition. The ordinance was assigned number 5,173.
No changes to the terms of the agreement were reported during the meeting, and the motion carried without recorded amendments.
The board opened the matter for comment and then closed discussion before the roll call.
