Brentwood fire department reports hiring progress, training‑facility bids and truck preconstruction trip

The Brentwood fire department told the Public Safety Committee on March 26 that it has moved candidates through the hiring pipeline and expects new firefighters to begin shifting on staggered schedules after completing academy and pre‑employment steps.

The fire chief said conditional offers had been made to two candidates; one declined and took a job with another district, while the first candidate cleared pre‑employment checks and starts the fire academy April 14. A third candidate is completing remaining requirements and is expected to come on shift in April after academy graduation.

Committee members also heard an update on a planned regional fire training facility. Commission members have prepared bidding documents that will be sent to manufacturers; the scope includes site preparation, utilities and construction of a training tower. Staff said the committee will return to the full board with another update in April to continue the procurement process.

On apparatus procurement, a truck committee will travel to Appleton, Wisconsin, for a preconstruction conference with the manufacturer to review engineering drawings and options; the chief said that conference is a standard part of the build and will take about two‑and‑a‑half days.

Staff reported two Daikin HVAC compressors at the fire station were replaced; both were original equipment from the station’s 2010 construction and replacements were completed without service disruptions during recent extreme weather.
