A longtime Peachtree City resident and local business owner told city leaders during the public-comment period that a Peachtree City 101 civic class deepened their understanding of how the city operates and encouraged them to get more involved.
The speaker, who said they live in PCS 3 and have been a resident for almost 20 years, said they first learned about the class from an ad in the Fayette newspaper. "I actually saw the PCS 3101 ad, in the newspaper, the Fayette, newspaper. And I've been a resident of PCS 3 for almost 20 years. And I also own a business here," the resident said.
The resident described several class activities that stood out, saying the sessions combined interactive exercises and behind-the-scenes demonstrations. "One of them is where they showed us how to design the card paths through the forest and how if you bring down the trees, how much it costs versus how you have to carefully do that," the resident said. They also described a public-safety presentation that included fire trucks, police and dogs and a playground inspection exercise that taught participants how to spot problems and file reports.
The commenter said the class increased their appreciation for city and county staff and public-safety personnel: "It is so much hard work that goes behind keeping us living here, working here safely and in a happy way, and keeping our kids safe in the community." They urged fellow citizens to take the Peachtree City 101 class, saying, "I strongly encourage you to take the PCS City 101 class and help the city in any way when they ask us citizens to get in."
No formal action or vote was recorded in the transcript on this topic. The remarks were presented as a citizen endorsement of the civic-education offering and a call for broader community participation.
