Substitute Senate Bill 5758, which would have limited local governments’ ability to require larger distance setbacks for cannabis retailers licensed under the social equity program, received staff briefing and member discussion April 1 but was not advanced by the Consumer Protection & Business Committee at this session.
Staff outlined the bill’s changes, including a 250-foot maximum local separation between premises proposed for social-equity cannabis retail licenses and existing licensed retailers, and described two amendments under consideration that would have reduced minimum distances and specified how distance should be measured. Representative Ryu withdrew one of the proposed amendments during the meeting.
After a brief recess for caucus, the chair announced the committee would not move Substitute Senate Bill 5758 at this time. The committee proceeded with other executive actions. No amendment adoption or committee vote in favor of SSB 5758 is recorded in the transcript for this meeting.
