The Harris County Board of Commissioners voted April 1 to authorize submission of an application for Local Road Assistance (LRA) funds and to authorize the chairman and county clerk to execute documents if the county is awarded funding.
County staff said the county had received an unexpected LRA allocation and that the board must identify one county road, totaling 5.6 miles, for resurfacing. The project identified is Hochul Church Road, beginning at Hamilton Glen and Grove Road and ending at Interstate 185. The board approved submitting the application to the Georgia Department of Transportation and authorized staff to proceed with competitive bidding once funds are received.
Staff provided an anticipated schedule: prepare bid documents in April–May, advertise bids in May–June, award the contract in July, begin construction in August and complete by December 2025. Staff said any overages would be paid from county funds (transcript refers to an overage source as “t spots”); the board said the project would be included in the upcoming fiscal-year 2025–26 budget.
The meeting did not record a clear dollar amount on the record (the transcript contains unclear audio when an allocation figure was read). The board set a deadline for the LRA application of June 15, 2025. Commissioners approved the motion by vote; staff will return with bid documents if the funds are awarded.
