El Segundo roundup: PTA run, ElderFest, charity hockey, fairs and summer programs

The El Segundo PTA’s 33rd annual Run for Education (5K, 10K and kids fun runs) is set for April 26 at 8 a.m.; in-person registration opens at 6:30 a.m. the day of the race, and online details are available at esrun4education.com. The run is a major fundraiser for El Segundo Unified School District.
The city’s Recreation, Parks and Library Department is accepting nominations for the El Segundo Older American of the Year ahead of ElderFest on Saturday, May 17 at the Joslyn Center; nomination forms are due Friday, April 18 at 5 p.m. The department also runs summer camps for children and teens, with El Segundo residents eligible for registration earlier than nonresidents; recreation scholarship awards of up to $200 per person and $600 per household annually are available for eligible households, with applications accepted year-round and awarded four times per year.
On Saturday, April 26 at 5 p.m., the El Segundo Police and Fire departments will play a South Bay Police vs. Fire Charity Hockey Game at the Toyota Sports Performance Center; the segment listed $20 ticket price and described the event as family friendly. The broadcast also included a local sports note that the Los Angeles Chargers hold the 20th pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
Other spring events on the calendar include the El Segundo Rotary Club’s Mayor’s Good Friday Breakfast on April 18; two Easter egg-hunt traditions and a Camp Expo on April 19; an underwater eggstravaganza at the El Segundo Aquatic Center on April 19 with resident and nonresident pricing; and the annual Hometown Fair on May 3 on Main Street. The El Segundo Education Foundation’s 13th annual Ed Gala is scheduled for May 9 at Chevron Park; the segment said the gala aims to raise $400,000 toward a $2,000,000 pledge grant.
