Water agencies host 'Goodbye Grass' landscaping class; El Segundo schedules paper-shredding and e-waste collection

Catherine Chen, host of El Segundo News, said West Basin Municipal Water District, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and the Water Replenishment District are hosting a free in-person class, "Goodbye Grass, Hello Garden," on Friday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to noon at the El Segundo Public Library.
The class will cover turf removal and water-use efficiency and will include presentations by local experts including the Green Gardens Group. Seating is limited; the segment directed listeners to register at westbasin.org.
In related environmental-service news, the city and EDCO are sponsoring a free paper-shredding and e-waste collection event on Saturday, April 19 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the El Segundo maintenance facility, 150 Illinois Street. Certified shredding trucks will shred confidential documents on-site (limit two bankers boxes per household). Residents may drop off electronics such as TVs, computer monitors, printers and VCRs.
Free mulch and finished compost will be available while supplies last; there is a limit of three cans or bags per vehicle. The broadcast advised people loading material into open trucks or trailers to bring a tarp. For more details, listeners were directed to the city calendar at elsegundo.org.
