Sheriff's enforcement chief says office is short roughly 47 deputies and offered to answer residents' questions

"We're a 47 deputies short of where we need to be," Chad said, describing the office’s recruitment and staffing challenges. He said the agency is budgeted for 77 sworn positions and that staffing and budget decisions are ultimately set through the county budgeting process.
Chad distributed flyers with recruitment information and said he would remain after the meeting to take questions from residents. He urged people to contact county decision makers to discuss staffing levels, saying the sheriff’s office relies on the county’s budget allocation to hire and maintain deputies.
Residents thanked the sheriff’s office for attending and for providing materials; Chad said he would stay to answer questions as long as meeting participants wished to talk.
