Linn County approves rezoning of 91-acre Linacre Lane parcel to allow private campground

The Linn County Board of Supervisors voted March 5 to approve second consideration of a rezoning request for about 91 acres at 1017 Linacre Lane in Cedar Rapids, removing a seasonal cabin and recreation overlay (REC) and rezoning the parcel to agricultural (AG) to allow a private campground.
Bridal Weilam of Planning and Development told the board the applicant sought to remove the recreation overlay to operate a private campground and that the county had not received any public comments on the proposal. Weilam said the Planning and Zoning Commission granted unanimous approval on Feb. 17. "Essentially, they are removing the seasonal, cabin and recreation area overlay, in order to have a private campground on this property," Weilam said.
Supervisor Rogers moved to approve second consideration; another supervisor seconded. With no public comment or further discussion, the board approved the measure. The clerk recorded the vote by voice as "Aye," and the board chair said second consideration had passed.
The rezoning will proceed under county process for finalization as required by local zoning procedures. The Planning and Zoning record shows unanimous support at the commission level; no neighbors or members of the public spoke at the board meeting.
