YVCOG reports emergency home repairs, mold remediation and readies $2 million down‑payment program

Chris Wiggenhagen told commissioners that YVCOG’s housing services administered Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for emergency home repairs in 2024 and completed other targeted health‑related repairs.
Wiggenhagen said 13 homes received emergency repairs last year — primarily HVAC replacements and roofs — under a program that serves homeowners who are seniors, people with disabilities or parents of disabled residents and who meet income and occupancy requirements. He said another grant funded remediation related to mold and asbestos, and that 15 homes received that work in 2024. Wiggenhagen said most individual repairs in these programs run between $3,000 and $5,000.
Looking ahead, he said YVCOG received a $2,000,000 grant to create a down‑payment assistance program and is developing program details. Wiggenhagen also described a waiting list for emergency repairs and said staffing and processing time constrain how quickly applications move.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions and expressed support for continuing housing assistance; the board did not vote on housing‑program policy or additional county funding during the work session.
