YVCOG adopts 2024–2045 regional transportation plan; awards $7.75 million in federal funds

Chris Wiggenhagen told the Board of Yakima County Commissioners that the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments adopted a 2024–2045 regional long‑range transportation plan and awarded $7,750,000 in federal funding for projects across member jurisdictions in 2024.
YVCOG said it completed a corridor safety and multimodal study for Naches, participated in federal passenger‑rail studies, supported airport planning and the Yakama Nation heritage connectivity trail, and contributed to the Greenway master plan update. Wiggenhagen noted YVCOG provides free traffic counts to member communities for grant applications and planning.
The presentation listed a regional safety action plan that addresses sidewalks, safe routes to school and non‑vehicle modes of travel. YVCOG also identified a $5,000,000 request for proposals planned to fund air‑quality measures such as street sweepers.
Commissioners and YVCOG staff discussed coordination with municipal and county transportation staff and technical partners, and Wiggenhagen said People for People and WSDOT representatives sit on the transportation policy board. No county action was taken at the work session.
