The Hocking County Board of Commissioners on March 27 certified and appropriated $131,607.07 for the Rockbridge Sewer Project so the county can pay contractor invoices, and county staff reported a separate emergency issue: an obstruction in a sewer line that may require digging and camera inspection.
The appropriation was described as certification of incoming funds into account 505001 to allow payment of DLC invoices. Commissioners approved the item unanimously.
During the general business updates county staff said crews and the fire department attempted to clear a blockage on the line running between Teuton Elementary and the flea market. They reported they could not clear the obstruction using high-pressure flushing: the crew reached about 1,500 gallons and pressure topped out at 10 psi before flow stopped. DLZ (an engineering firm) representative Bobby (last name not provided) said in his 17 years he has not seen that failure mode; county staff said the problem likely is not an air lock and will require digging and cutting and insertion of a camera to locate and identify the blockage.
County officials said the distance between the two problem points is about 1.5 miles and that DLC will prepare a plan for further work.
Why it matters: The certified funds free payment to the project contractor, while the blockage is causing operational concern for the county sewer network and may require excavation — a more costly and disruptive repair than a simple flush.
