Lucas County approves reappointments, emergency pump repairs and equipment purchases; limits placed on three Dutch Road bridges

On matters from the county engineer's office commissioners approved reappointments of Laurie Adams and Gary Stuckey to the Access Management Appeals Board for terms expiring June 30, 2029. The board also approved emergency repairs to the Howard Farms pump station by Gem Services of Waterbridge, Ohio, following a freeze that damaged pumps; the county recorded the repair amount at $125,000. The county said additional work is planned to reduce the risk of repeat failures.
Also approved was a joint cooperation agreement with the Reno Beach–Howard Farms Conservancy District for project management services on a federally funded study of existing levees in Jerusalem Township; the county will manage that work on a time-and-materials basis. Commissioners authorized plan specifications and a cost estimate for a long-line painting/striping program with an estimated cost of approximately $320,000.
The board authorized reduced vehicle weight limits for three Dutch Road bridges (listed as bridges 813, 814 and 815) that cross Blystone Ditch, Farnsworth Ditch and Township Ward Ditch. County staff told commissioners the bridges date to about 1910 and are not designed for modern loads; the limits will remain until the county replaces or upgrades the structures and appropriate signage will be posted.
From the sanitary engineer's office, the board granted permission to advertise for purchase of three new Chevrolet Silverados to be used as work trucks; the county intends to sell five older units through GovDeals. Sanitary Engineer Nate Incrotte described plans to return the fleet to a two-person vehicle model used before the COVID pandemic.
Motions on the items were approved on voice or roll-call votes called by the clerk; recorded roll-call votes for motions explicitly captured show unanimous approval by the attending commissioners where recorded. Commissioners did not provide detailed contract documents or vendor bids on the record; the county engineer's office will proceed with contracting and procurement consistent with county purchasing rules and the terms described at the meeting.
