Skamania County commissioners discussed drafting an ordinance to ban shoulder parking on the West End near the Salmon Falls Park & Ride and set a process for community outreach and a public hearing.
County staff said verbiage for the ordinance is being drafted in coordination with the public works director and that the proposal would require a hearing. Commissioners discussed a community outreach plan of three to four weeks to gather local input and said a two-week public-notice period would be used ahead of a hearing. Locations for community meetings mentioned included the American Legion and the fire station in District 4.
Commissioners agreed to consult Chief Fuller and the District 4 board as part of outreach. One commissioner said they would “circle back” with Chief Fuller and his board and saw no reason not to hold the hearing on the West End. The county also discussed combining multiple West End items into a single hearing if appropriate.
No ordinance number, adoption date or final code language was provided during the meeting; the item remains at the draft-and-outreach stage. The board indicated it plans to return to the matter for a formal hearing and vote after community engagement and required public notice.
