The Waunakee Community School District Policy Committee reviewed a first draft of social media administrative procedures on March 31 designed to cover both student- and staff-level use of social platforms.
The presenter described the document as a first step developed over recent months and said the district pulled examples and language from peer districts and other samples. The presenter said the draft has not yet been circulated widely for staff feedback.
Board members praised the effort and asked about peer-district practice; one board member observed that few neighboring districts have formal policies and said the district had drawn language from a variety of sources.
The committee’s next steps, as described by staff, are to share the draft with the Waunakee Teachers Association and to solicit wider staff and student feedback before returning with recommended revisions. One board member called the work “a great step in the right direction” and emphasized the importance of clear communications about next steps for staff and students.
No committee vote was taken on the social media procedures during the meeting.
