Board confirms James Henderson as Kings County public works director

The Kings County Board of Supervisors voted to confirm James (Jim) Henderson as the county’s Director of Public Works effective March 31, 2025. The Board also set compensation at $13,084 per month, applied retroactively to the effective date.
Kerrio Martinez, speaking for administration, outlined Henderson’s background: he began with the county in 1995, left briefly, returned in 2002, and rose through Public Works to serve as building maintenance superintendent and, most recently, deputy director of public works. Martinez said the position is at-will and the recruitment opened Jan. 7, 2025; a conditional offer to Henderson followed the completed recruitment.
The appointment motion was moved by Supervisor Joe Neves and seconded; the Board confirmed Henderson in a 4–1 vote. Supervisor Doug Verboom recorded the lone "no" vote during the roll call; the other supervisors voted in favor.
Henderson, present at the meeting, thanked the Board and said he looked forward to serving in the new role. County staff and supervisors offered quick congratulations.
