The Senate Transportation and Energy Committee moved Senate Bill 204 to the Committee of the Whole with a favorable recommendation after sponsors said the measure only relocates a statutory definition to apply across an entire section.
Senator Ball, presenting the bill, said the measure is “an uncomplicated bill” that came out of the statutory revision committee and “pulls the defined terms that it applies to the entire section,” ensuring the defined phrase utility company betterment applies to a second mention of that language.
Senator Catlin, who cosponsored the bill, described it as one of the routine fixes the committee takes on itself to improve statutes, saying the bill moves duplicate appearances of the definition into a single place so it applies consistently across the statute.
No members of the public signed up to testify and no amendments were offered. Senator Catlin moved the bill to the Committee of the Whole with a favorable recommendation; the roll call recorded affirmative responses from senators who participated in that vote and the chair asked that the bill be placed on the Senate consent calendar.
With no objections to placement on the consent calendar, SB 204 advanced out of the committee.
