House Transportation to hold multiweek DMV review; committee to weigh ID renewals, inspections, bike safety and revenue options

House Transportation Committee members on April 1 opened a multiweek review of Department of Motor Vehicles operations and signaled they will hear testimony before deciding whether to add provisions to a miscellaneous DMV bill.

The committee chair said the sessions will resemble a short education series for lawmakers. "We're going back to school for a couple weeks on everything to do with the DMV," the committee chair said, adding that agency staff will present on licensing, registrations, driver education, inspections and the DMV's modernization program.

The briefings are meant to give members detailed information before the committee digs into the miscellaneous DMV bill itself.
