The Committee of Transportation voted to adopt a package of road-naming resolutions that will add 21 dedications on the state highway system, including a sign dedicating State Route 316 at High Hope Road in Gwinnett County to senior corrections officer Scott Osborne Reiner.
Representative Donna Tucci introduced HR 809, telling committee members that Reiner "was a devoted family man as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle" and that he was killed Dec. 13, 2022, in the parking lot of the Gwinnett County corrections facility as he prepared to start a shift. Tucci said Reiner spent 13 years as a corrections officer and led a program that brought at-risk teens to hear from offenders at the complex; that program was dissolved in 2017 and revived in 2024 as the Scott Reiner Prison Awareness Program.
A department representative, Josh Waller, thanked the committee and singled out staff members who prepared the dedications, saying the work of legislative staff and department employees made the signage and paperwork possible. Committee members moved and seconded adoption of the package; the committee voice-voted “aye” and recorded no opposition.
Committee materials described the larger package as SR 02/31 (the resolution that carries multiple dedications) and noted five entries listed under that specific sheet; committee staff said 21 dedications in total were being added by the bundle. Tucci said a sign honoring Reiner will be placed at the identified location on State Route 316 in Gwinnett County.
The committee chair also noted small tokens from the Georgia Highway Contractors — insulated tumblers bearing the Transportation Committee logo — would be available to members as a thank-you from contractors that support transportation work.
The committee approved the dedications and moved on to other business.
