Sean Warner, representing the Dubois County Health Department, told commissioners that a state grant reduction would eliminate funding for a nursing position. The department requested to transfer $44,836 from a county-held COVID deliverables fund (fund 177) to cover personnel costs from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2025, and to set a salary ordinance to pay the nurse $2,093.45 biweekly.
Warner said the state cut the nursing position grant to $9,027.29 from a previously larger amount. To avoid losing the position, he requested moving the position into the remaining COVID deliverable grant funds and then continuing to manage funding in next year's budget.
Commissioners discussed grant timing and whether state funding could be restored; Warner said he expected possible adjustments in the April budget but could not guarantee restored levels. The board voted to approve the requested transfer and then approved a salary ordinance to pay the nurse $2,093.45 biweekly.
