Council approves rezoning at 1375 South Harkrider for glass business relocation

The Conway City Council voted 7-0 to rezone 1375 South Harkrider from A-1 to C-3 so an existing glass business can relocate and build a new shop and showroom.
Planning staff introduced the request and said the parcel is surrounded by C-3 zoning to the north and east and railroad right-of-way to the rear. The planning commission recommended approval unanimously at its March 17 meeting and no members of the public opposed the rezoning at that hearing.
Applicant John Lewitt told the council he is seeking the rezoning to allow a roughly 6,000-square-foot facility with a 4,000-square-foot shop and 2,000 square feet of office and showroom space to accommodate his glass business (referred to in the hearing as both Heagle Glass and Hugo Glass). He said the sale of the property is contingent on rezoning.
Councilmembers welcomed the business growth; the council adopted Ordinance O2530 by unanimous vote.
Any construction will be subject to building permits, site development review and applicable city regulations.
