Keep San Angelo Beautiful reports 208 events, 1,500 volunteers; highlights tire and paint recycling

Keep San Angelo Beautiful presented its annual report to the San Angelo City Council on April 1, reporting 208 events and more than 1,500 volunteers in the past year and summarizing multi‑year outreach and recycling efforts.

Charlotte Anderson, executive director, told council the program reached roughly 50,000 people and recorded 4,721 volunteer hours this past year, a volunteer contribution the group estimated as a $158,000 value. “We this past year, we had over 208 events. We had over 1,500 volunteers and reached out to about 50,000 in our community,” Anderson said.

Anderson highlighted specific programs: a large‑scale tire collection (3,100 tires collected with 62 participants), hazardous‑waste events in which staff said about 75% of collected paint was disposed rather than recycled and 25% was reused or recycled through the contractor Safe Harbors, and tree‑planting partnerships with SAISD and other community groups. She said the group is exploring community paint‑reuse cabinets and noted plans for the annual Don’t Mess with Texas trash‑off and Earth Day activities.

Anderson also reviewed five‑year totals: 754 events, more than 4,000 volunteers, about 18,000 volunteer hours and an estimated $431,000 community value. Council thanked Anderson and the program’s partners; Mayor Brenda Gunter and Superintendent Chris Moran of San Angelo ISD acknowledged Goodfellow Air Force Base and the district’s partnership on military‑family recognition and student outreach.

No council action was required; the presentation served as an informational briefing and community recognition.
