City Council authorized the City of Orangeburg to enter an automatic aid agreement between the City of Orangeburg Department of Public Safety (City Fire) and the Orangeburg County Fire District. Staff described the agreement as a mutual-aid arrangement under which the county would render aid to the city when additional fire support is needed and the city would render aid to the county in similar circumstances.
At the public meeting staff said the agreement is "a mutual aid agreement that, that we've had, that would, require us to provide aid if the county fire district needs it and vice versa." Councilman Kidd moved adoption of the agreement; Councilman Hannah seconded. The motion carried with "ayes" recorded; the transcript does not include a roll-call tally.
No implementation schedule or operational details (such as response protocols or cost-recovery terms) were presented in the public portion of the meeting; staff indicated the item was an authorization to enter the agreement.
