At a recent meeting of the Beaufort Cultural Arts Committee, members reviewed three logo concepts for the Taste of Beaufort arts festival and asked the designer to revise the chosen artwork and provide updated files within about two weeks.
Committee members said the logos should read clearly as an arts festival and recommended specific edits: add the word “art” (or “arts”), replace ampersands with periods or separate lines for listed elements (for example, “Art. Food. Music. Culture. History.”), and avoid color or motifs that read as a St. Patrick’s/food festival. Members generally preferred the bottom-right design for legibility but asked the designer to try the top option with a background color and to “play with” the background and type so the logo will reproduce well on shirts and other materials.
Sarah Sutton, identified as a city staff member at the meeting, said the group needs a budget breakdown of expected costs and potential revenue from artist gallery sales and space rentals so the item can be folded into the city budget; she noted the committee’s budget timeline is imminent (city budget deadline referenced in the meeting). Committee members said the festival currently does not sell merchandise but asked staff to look at T-shirt, reusable bag and volunteer/staff item costs as part of the budget.
The committee asked Shawn (the designer) to make the revisions and return updated options in roughly two weeks, subject to his schedule. Members agreed to assemble a budget “guesstimate” for staff by the coming Wednesday so the city can consider it when preparing its budget submission.
Members also discussed merchandising only for volunteers/staff unless future sales prove viable. No formal motion or vote was recorded during the discussion. The committee expects a revised logo and a budget estimate to be circulated to members for final review before the next planning steps.
The committee will reconvene or circulate the designer’s revisions and a budget breakdown to finalize branding and festival expenditures.
