WAMPO opens draft MTP 2050 for public comment; virtual meeting and open house scheduled

Markie Jonas of the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization presented the draft MTP 2050 to the Haysville City Council on March 10 and urged residents to review the plan and submit comments.
Jonas said WAMPO — the federally required metropolitan planning organization covering Wichita and parts of Sedgwick, Butler and Sumner counties — is finalizing its long-range transportation plan that looks ahead 25 years and sets regional priorities such as safety, reliable travel times, environmental and economic impacts, multimodal connectivity and equity.
The draft MTP 2050 is available for public review and comment through April 7 at www.wampo.org/mtp2050. Jonas said WAMPO is hosting a virtual public meeting Wednesday, March 12 from noon to 1 p.m., and an open house March 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce. He encouraged Haysville staff, council members and residents to review the plan and use the posted comment tools.
Council members noted existing and planned projects that benefit Haysville, including planned widening and sidewalk work on nearby corridors that receive federal or regional funding through WAMPO. Jonas and colleague Nick Flanders offered to try to answer technical questions and direct residents to additional materials.
The MTP lists potential projects and funding scenarios; WAMPO officials said public feedback will inform priorities before the plan is finalized.
