Hanahan council approves three January proclamations; human trafficking task force recognized

The Hanahan City Council unanimously adopted proclamations recognizing January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month and Interfaith Harmony Month and set January 26–February 1 as National School Choice Week. The council heard remarks from regional law enforcement and the Tri-County human trafficking task force before voting.
The Hanahan City Council on Jan. 14 approved three proclamations—declaring January 2025 National Human Trafficking Awareness Month in Hanahan, recognizing Charleston Interfaith Harmony Month, and designating Jan. 26–Feb. 1, 2025, as National School Choice Week—after brief presentations and rollout remarks from local partners.
The most substantive of the three proclamations came with a presentation by Special Agent Logan Fye of the State Law Enforcement Division and other Tri-County task force members. Fye and other task force representatives urged residents to learn signs of trafficking, to report suspected cases to law enforcement, and to support regional victim services. Mayor Christy Rainwater read the human trafficking proclamation before council voted to adopt it.
The interfaith proclamation recognized the Charleston Interreligious Council and encouraged community dialogue and cooperation among faith groups. The school choice proclamation recognized national School Choice Week and set dates for local observance.
All three proclamations were moved, seconded and adopted on voice or roll-call votes during the meeting. Council members who cast recorded “aye” votes during the human trafficking proclamation roll call included Council member Sally, Council member Dyson, Mayor Pro Tem Tim Hedgepeth, Council member Foley, Council member Spurlock and Mayor Christy Rainwater. No no-votes or abstentions were recorded on the proclamations in the public record.
The human trafficking task force and invited partners joined mayor and council at the front of the chamber after adoption for photographs and brief remarks.
The proclamations were routine recognitions; no binding policy changes or funding measures accompanied them. The council moved on to the consent agenda and other business after the ceremonial items.
