Town Administrator Rachel Glinton presented a request from the Lexington County School District 1 Educational Foundation for a $1,000 town sponsorship of the foundation’s annual celebration, scheduled March 4. Executive Director Julie Washburn attended and described the event as an awards celebration that honors the top 10% of seniors and supports need‑based educational grants.
Washburn said the foundation uses sponsorships to fund student and teacher grants and provides gift bags and a dessert reception for the honorees; she noted many of the students served are Lexington residents. Glinton asked council if it would put the sponsorship on the March 3 agenda for formal consideration; council voted unanimously to add the sponsorship request to that agenda for action.
