Road work, lane shifts and a new restaurant opening flagged in Lexington traffic update

Mayor Pro Tem Ron Williams and town staff provided a traffic update at the Feb. 3 Lexington council meeting describing near-term roadway work and public-safety outreach.
Work is underway to install a right-turn lane from Sunset Boulevard onto Mineral Springs Road. Intermittent nighttime lane closures are expected beginning each night at 9 p.m. for the coming weeks. Power Drive access onto Sunset Boulevard will be temporarily closed and local traffic will be diverted to the newly constructed Claystone Drive, officials said. The parks department will remove two trees this week at the edge of the sidewalk by Virginia Hilton Park, and a lane shift is expected along South Lake Drive near the park entrance from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the listed day. Town staff also announced the Water Burger restaurant on South Lake and Industrial Boulevard is scheduled to open this Thursday; officials warned of heavier-than-normal traffic at the grand opening and asked motorists to use caution.
Town staff also noted that the town’s Safe Streets for All study is underway and soliciting public input via the town website and social media. Residents were directed to the town’s online survey and a map-based tool to drop pins for suggested greenway and trail connections.
