Simpsonville City Council approved the second reading of Ordinance O-2025-01 on March 11, authorizing a lease with Crown and Bloom for the property at 102 Academy Street, the former fire department administrative building. The vote was unanimous, 7-0.
City Administrator Grace Lee told council the lease had been discussed and approved in two prior meetings and that the second reading would permit the lease to be signed. Grace Lee said the tenant was already receiving favorable publicity: "It is very timely that it is today because this morning, they were featured on Thoughts Carolina. I sent you all a link. I think they're going to be a great addition to the Simpsonville business community and certainly a great addition to the park." (Transcript text retained as delivered.)
During the brief discussion, Councilmember Hutchings urged that the lessee include some library function in the space because the building had previously housed certain library activities. "I'd just like to strongly encourage that that we have some facet of that there since that was what the building was initially," Hutchings said. No amendments were made; council approved the lease on second reading.
Action: motion to approve second reading was made by Councilmember Roshe and seconded by Councilmember Hutchings; the motion passed by voice vote 7-0. The ordinance will proceed to any remaining administrative steps required to finalize the lease agreement and allow signatures.
No additional funding or lease terms were discussed on the record during this meeting.
