Hohman Middle School to use temporary Door B while main entrance is upgraded

Hohman Middle School will close its main entrance, Door A, for construction work and use a temporary entrance, Door B, for student drop-off, bus arrivals and after-hours events, Ben Tashner, associate principal and activities director at Hohman Middle School, said.

Tashner said the change is intended to keep arrivals and departures safe and maintain normal traffic flow while contractors work on the main entrance. "This is our main entrance door A and is gonna get an upgrade with with our construction. With that though, we need to close down the entrance so that we can work with our construction company," he said.

Under the temporary arrangement, parents and guardians should drive into the parking lot and drop students off at the designated drop-off point, then follow the loop and exit through the first parking lane. "As you drop off your child, as a parent or guardian, you're gonna drive into the parking lot like normal. Drop your child off right about here so that then we can head to Door B, which will be this, entrance that we use," Tashner said.

Tashner said bus service will not change: students who ride the bus will be dismissed in the bus parking lot, walk the sidewalk and follow a marked path to Door B. "Students that ride the bus, that is staying the same. You will get off the bus in the bus parking lot, walk the sidewalk until you get to here, and then we'll walk this path down to Door B," he said.

He also said the school will relocate the bike rack to a grass area near the temporary entrance and install a street barrier to separate cars from students. "If your child rides a bike to school, our bike rack is gonna move and be located right here in this grass area. Your student can park their bike and then they can head on into Door B," Tashner said. He added: "As we walk down the sidewalk, you're going to see that there's a barrier in the street. That's for safety to keep a separation from cars and students so that everyone can enter the building safely." Students will use a ramp up to Door B.

Tashner said Door B will also serve as the entrance for after-school community and athletic events. "If you're coming to the middle school after hours, so for a after school community event or for an activities event, athletic event, this is the entrance that you come in, Door B," he said.

Tashner thanked the community for its patience during construction. He did not specify a timeline for when Door A will reopen.
