Commission highlights continuing-education opportunity and recent site-feature permits in monthly update

At its March 5 meeting the Bluffton Historic Preservation Commission received a monthly update from planning staff that included an announcement about continuing-education and a report on recently issued site-feature permits.
Glenn (planning staff) told commissioners that the South Carolina Historic Preservation Conference, held annually in Columbia at the end of April, offers continuing-education hours. “I will not tell you, however, that you have to attend the session that I'm leading at 01:00 on Friday afternoon,” Glenn said, adding that attending that session would earn one continuing-education credit. Commissioners clarified that the commission’s education-year reporting ends in June and that members have a total of six credits for the year.
Staff also reported the commission issued several site-feature permits over the past month covering signs, residential fences, replacement of a front and a side door on Lawton Street, and a commercial reroof on Bluffton Road. Glenn emphasized that the COFA reviewed earlier at the meeting covered only architecture and that any future proposals for parking, driveways, sidewalks, landscaping or lighting would require separate review and permitting.
No public comment or questions were raised about the update.
