Gainesville council removes paid-parking ordinance from agenda

The Gainesville Mayor and Council voted unanimously to remove Ordinance 2025-O2, an amendment to chapter 3.4 that would have enabled paid parking zones, from the meeting agenda after city staff requested more time to evaluate public feedback.
City Manager Bridal Lackey told the council the proposed changes followed nearly two years of analysis but that staff had received substantial feedback since the work session. "Staff's gonna come before you now to ask that that item ordinance 20 25 dash o 2 be removed from the agenda," he said, adding that because the ordinance was removed, the city would not move forward with any paid parking system "anytime soon."
A councilmember moved to remove the item from the agenda and another councilmember seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The mayor said speakers who wished to comment on the subject could do so during the public-comment period.
The removal means staff will revisit the ordinance and the paid-parking proposal before returning it to a future council meeting for further consideration.
