- TDC funding request: approved (voice vote) - St. Mary’s River Management Committee annual report: approved (voice vote) - Ambulance purchase (Hunter/Frasier chassis, low bid $353,350 with $10,500 travel contingency removed): approved. The board instructed staff to remove the $10,500 travel contingency from the contractor’s quote before contract execution. - Nursery Boulevard paving (Wilkes Site Prep $662,245.09; CEI Locklear & Associates $33,000): approved. - Sanderson Community Center well replacement (Rollersonville LLC $13,500): approved. - Extension office renovation flooring (Mannington Commercial $72,715.46) and change order to Plum Level Construction ($7,250): both approved. - RFQ 2024-18 award (Thomas Howell Ferguson for FEMA grant development): approved (see separate article). - Courthouse generator (Quality Internet Services/C-Tel) award: low bid $278,862.20; board approved using ARPA facility-improvement funds to cover the approximately $28,862.20 shortfall beyond a $250,000 state appropriation.
During discussion of the ambulance purchase Commissioners raised concerns about a contractor-included contingency that appeared to fund county personnel travel and asked that travel be handled through county processes rather than embedded in vendor pricing. Commissioner Bennett moved approval of the ambulance purchase with the travel amount removed; the motion passed. For each item the board moved and approved contracts by majority voice vote.
