Summary
The district sent 75 letters of invitation to students accepted to the new Innovative High School after interviewing more than 110 applicants; staff said a waiting list of about a dozen students remains and that accepted students include 20 who are not currently enrolled in Moore County Schools.
Moore County Schools announced that 75 students received letters of invitation to the district's new Innovative High School after a selection process that included more than 110 interviews.
Doctor Metcalfe and committee members said the program produced a wait list of about 12–13 students. Interview teams included staff who assessed applicants using a rubric; staff reported the pool included students from Moore County public schools, charter schools and home-school or private-school backgrounds.
"The letters of invitation went out for students who've been selected based on our rubric. 75 letters go out today for students," the district said. Staff reported 20 of the accepted students are not currently enrolled in Moore County Schools — including home-school and charter students — and that the district anticipated sending yard signs to accepting families.
Board members asked staff to provide a geographic breakdown of accepted students' school or home origins; staff offered to email the raw data and to provide maps showing student distribution to the board.
