The Michigan Senate on Feb. 25, 2025, adopted Senate Resolution 13 recognizing February 2025 as School-Based Health Care Awareness Month.
The resolution, introduced by Senator Bayer, honors school-based health centers — also called child and adolescent health centers — for providing primary care, mental health care and prevention services inside schools. "Today I offer a resolution that commemorates February as school based health center, health care awareness month," Bayer said on the Senate floor.
Bayer told colleagues that Michigan now has "over 300 of these delivering primary health care, mental health care, and prevention services inside our schools for over 30 years." She said children served by the centers "show improvements in attendance and standardized test scores because they're healthier." The resolution was offered for immediate consideration, there were no amendments pending, and the Senate adopted it by voice vote.
Discussion on the floor consisted of the sponsor's remarks in support of formal recognition; no further amendments or recorded roll‑call votes were taken on the resolution. The resolution asks the Senate to recognize the work of school-based health centers statewide.
The resolution will be entered into the Senate journal as adopted.
