Moore County approves conditional rezoning for 259-foot wireless tower on N.C. 2427

The Moore County Board of Commissioners on April 2025 approved a conditional rezoning for a 259-foot wireless communications tower on a 6.31-acre parcel at 9739 N.C. 2427, allowing Jordan 3, LLC to locate a 0.11-acre tower pad for Verizon service.

The decision follows a continued public hearing from the Feb. 18 meeting and a presentation from county planning staff and the applicant. Planning Director Deborah Hensminger told commissioners the request had been reviewed by the planning board, which voted 7-0 that the rezoning was consistent with the county land-use plan and recommended approval to the commissioners.

Supporters and applicants said the tower would fill a coverage gap along N.C. 2427 and improve access to 9-1-1 and emergency alerts, while opponents raised health and visual-impact concerns. Jonathan Yates, an attorney representing the applicant, told the board, “Folks traveling the road can use their phones. Folks living there can use their phones,” and added the primary public-safety benefit was improved access to emergency services and county alerts.
