Committee approves $249,950 amendment to Downtown Safe Access & Mobility consultant contract

The Missoula Public Works Committee voted March 12 to approve Amendment 1 to the professional services agreement with DJ&A for preliminary engineering on the Downtown Safe Access & Mobility (Downtown SAM) project.
Megan McMeekin, project manager with Public Works and Mobility, said the original DJ&A contract executed in January covered surveying work with a base contract of $248,757. She said Amendment 1 adds design tasks, is priced at $249,950, and that the city expects at least one additional amendment to complete the preliminary engineering phase. McMeekin said the preliminary engineering phase is covered by the RAISE grant and that the grant agreement has been executed; the preliminary engineering costs are obligated under that grant.
Council member Mike Nelson disclosed a professional relationship with DJ&A and recused himself from the vote, saying his employer is DJ&A though his work there is unrelated to this project. The committee called a voice vote; McMeekin noted Nelson’s recusal for the record and the amendment passed.
The presenter stated the amendment will bring the contract to a total value of $498,707 (base $248,757 plus $249,950). The committee recorded the recusal and placed no additional conditions on the amendment.
