Library board approves updated exhibits/petitioning policy and a Better World Books dropbox agreement

The township board approved a revised Waterford Township Public Library exhibits, bulletin boards and petitioning policy and separately approved an agreement with Better World Books to place a donation “drop box” in the library parking lot.

Julie Schafer, the library director, said the exhibits/bulletin boards/petitioning policy is an update of a policy that had not been reviewed since 2010 and will be posted to the library website. The board voted to approve the updated policy on roll call.

On the Better World Books agreement, trustees approved a contract that allows the company to place a green donation bin in the library parking lot. The Friends of the Library will be the designated organization to receive proceeds from materials collected in the bin, and the township supervisor is authorized to sign the agreement on the library's behalf. Schafer said the bin is intended to supplement — not replace — Friends' regular book sales and drop‑off days; books not suited for sale will be collected by Better World Books for redistribution or sale and proceeds will go to the Friends.

Kim Marquis, the clerk, also noted that the library has tightened its policy on loaning mobile Wi‑Fi hotspots: due to demand and cost, hotspots will be loaned only to Waterford residents.

The board recorded roll call votes in favor of both the policy update and the Better World Books agreement. The agreements include standard operational terms; the board did not authorize new spending beyond existing library operations at this meeting.
