Pensacola — The Pensacola City Council unanimously approved the acquisition of real property at 1818 North Palafox Street on March 27 as part of the Hollis T. Williams stormwater park project.
The council authorized the mayor to finalize and administer the purchase agreement for parcel ID 000S009010060106 from PLVS Ultra, LLC for an amount not to exceed $377,000 plus appropriate closing costs. The approval includes a condition that the seller deliver an appropriately cleared vacant parcel before closing. The motion was moved by Council Member Wiggins and seconded by Council Vice President Patton; the roll call vote was 7‑0.
During public comment on the item, James Gulley, a neighborhood resident, urged the city to ensure demolition of the existing dilapidated structure at the site, saying demolition now could save the city money later. Gulley noted bidding and demolition procedures and encouraged the city to follow through on the mayor’s offer to give the property owner a chance to demolish the structure before the city acted.
Why it matters: The parcel is part of a planned stormwater park intended to address drainage and stormwater management in the Hollis T. Williams area. The council’s authorization allows the mayor’s office to complete the acquisition and proceed with project planning, provided the cleared‑parcel condition is met.
What’s next: City staff will proceed with closing processes and the mayor is authorized to take necessary actions to execute and administer the acquisition per the terms of the purchase agreement.
