Public Works warns road funding falls short of need; RTC funds, pavement preservation and fleet costs outlined

John Erb, transportation engineering manager, and Phil Reitker, director of Public Works, told the board the road operating fund covers routine valley maintenance — snow removal, striping, ditch work, sign replacement and pothole repair — and is supported by several state gas-tax allocations and transfers, but revenue is relatively flat. Erb said multiple state gas-tax allocations are distributed based on public road miles and other formula elements and noted the county typically receives revenue two months after collections.
