The Pensacola Architectural Review Board granted final approval March 20 for window and roof replacement at 819 East Jackson Street in Old East Hill, with one follow‑up requested for a large porch window.
Adrianne Walker described the application as replacement of existing windows with aluminum‑clad wood windows with simulated divided lights, a roof replacement using GAF Timberline shingles in pewter gray, and in‑kind siding repairs; the building is a contributing structure in the Old East Hill Preservation District (Zone OEHC1).
Calabado High Point (contractor) explained the house had been retrofitted decades ago with aluminum siding and non‑operable storm windows; the proposal returns the exterior to a more original look, replacing deteriorated windows with modern, aluminum‑clad wood windows that meet current building codes and energy standards. Board members and members of the public discussed whether existing historic sashes could be repaired rather than replaced; contractors on the project said many of the existing sashes were rotted, sealed with putty and bondo, and not operable.
Mister Yi moved to approve the application with the condition that the full‑height porch window return for an abbreviated review showing the final configuration (fixed or operable) and that the final window pattern match as closely as practicable. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said a written summary will include the requested language and that the applicant will follow up with staff after the meeting.
The board’s approval permits the applicant to proceed toward building permits once final details are submitted and the abbreviated review of the porch window is completed.
