Members praised Johnson’s leadership and several council members said students at recipient sites were grateful.
On Blessings in a Backpack, organizers asked members to complete baskets by March 31 and submit a photograph and declared value so promotional flyers can be prepared; the in‑person event is April 3 at the Yacht Club (arrival at 4:30 p.m.). Council members agreed to shifts rather than all staying the full event (concert runs roughly 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.).
Members also confirmed interest in staffing a youth‑table at the annual Cape Coral Hurricane Expo (May 31) to provide child‑focused activities while residents visit informational booths; members asked staff to clarify table logistics after members reported mixed experiences at past expos. Advisors said the city event manager will be asked to limit duplication of giveaway items at the youth table so volunteers are not left idle.
The council received an update on the “Lovelocks” project: Member Duperon has been contacting potential donors and providers, hopes to visit some locations during spring break and expects to report back with at least one estimate at the next meeting. Advisor Mazurkiewicz noted the youth council has about $1,000 available to help cover material costs if donors cannot provide full donations.
Members who plan to staff events were asked to confirm availability in group communications and to forward any vendor or nonprofit contact information to the adviser coordinating each project.
