Director outlines charter renewal workshop, Live Healthy funding uses and collective-bargaining ratification

The director told the board she plans an April workshop on the charter-renewal process, noting the school’s current charter enrollment is 1,700, the site capacity is 1,870, and projected full-time-equivalent enrollment is about 1,843 based on course requests and seat assignments.

On legislative funding, the director said the Live Healthy initiative — legislation that provided funding specifically for lab schools to expand healthcare career pipelines — arrived in January and the school is using the funds to build pathways in partnership with the university, TSC and Lively. As part of that work the director said the school has purchased two 12-passenger vans to expand student field experiences and transport students to partner campuses for health-care pathway exposure.

On labor matters, the director reported that the university president signed the collective-bargaining agreement finalized this week; teachers will receive retroactive pay dating to last August, she said. The board also approved midyear salary increases for faculty administrators that had gone two years without raises; those increases will be retroactive.

Other governance items the director raised included a planned shift from policy-committee work to bylaws and vision-planning work and an update that a strategic-plan phase-two review by alumni and education leaders is nearing completion.

No formal board action was taken on the charter-renewal workshop, Live Healthy programming or the collective-bargaining ratification during this meeting beyond noting those items for future committee and board consideration.
