FSUS board hears baseball/softball repair scope expand; estimated cost may top original allocation
Summary
Facilities staff described a phased rebuild of baseball and softball facilities after storm damage, playground safety upgrades, roofing work, and a parking-lot reseal still awaiting vendor bids; an initial $850,000 allocation for stadium work may need an additional $300,000–$400,000 for expanded seating, storage and concessions.

Facilities staff told the board that storm damage prompted a phased plan for baseball and softball repairs that will begin with hitting quarters and the backstop, followed by bleachers and a concession stand with bathrooms — the latter contingent on final seating counts.
Staff said the school has already replaced the backstop net behind home plate and that an architect outside the school is preparing plans for bleachers, storage and the concession footprint. The board was told the project will cost more than the tentative $850,000 allocation approved in January; staff estimated an additional roughly $300,000–$400,000 may be needed to add storage and the concession/ restroom pieces once seating scope is finalized.
Other capital items discussed included: repairing and replacing concrete and walking areas over the summer; installing safer rubber ‘‘fall zones’’ and rubber mulch on a playground; roof/curtain-stage work coordinated with FSU and a general contractor (Culpepper) with an approximate initial six-week scheduling window; and resealing and restriping the parking lot, where staff said they had solicited three vendors and had not yet received bids.
Why it matters: the expanded scope for bleachers and concessions will change the project footprint and cost; bathrooms and other facilities additions depend on the final seating and storage needs and may require more funding or budget reallocation.
No formal vote on capital items was recorded at the meeting; staff said they will return to the board with updated pricing and a refined scope once the architect and contractors complete cost estimates.
