The single-hauler request for proposals (RFP) was issued on Jan. 6, staff said. A mandatory pre-bid meeting is scheduled for Jan. 31, and bids are due Feb. 14; staff will review bids first and then bring recommendations to the city work group before returning to the council for contract consideration. "We'll review and consider those and then bring back before you guys a consideration for a contract," a staff member said.
In the capital-improvement program update, staff noted the 70th Street bridge/retaining-wall repair kickoff meeting was rescheduled after heavy snow on Jan. 6 prevented work. The project manager was delayed by snow removal and the kickoff was rescheduled; staff said a fuller update will be available at the next meeting. A separate paving/undergrounding item on Shawnee Mission Parkway (local reference: EB Evan/IKEA Way section) was reported as expected to reopen by the end of the week after a short closure.
Why it matters: the single-hauler contract affects how residential solid-waste collection is provided; a new contractor could change service patterns and costs. Weather has pushed back project starts, which may shift construction timelines.
